This program will explore the rich history of theatre and costume design during the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space.
Located in Prague, the city rests on the banks of the Vltava River and has been the political, cultural, and economic hotspot on Eastern Europe for over 1000 years. The city is unaltered and is full of famous theatres and opera houses, centuries-old buildings converted into late night discothèques. Program Details ________________ Students will participate in the Prague Quadrennial throughout the duration of their program. This is an opportunity to see contemporary work in performance design, costume, staging, light, sound design and theatre architecture. This is the largest event of its kind anywhere in the world. Tour the Prague National Theatre and see hand-crafted puppets and Baroque Theatre. The theatre consists of three artistic ensembles: opera, ballet and drama. This theatre performs both classical pieces that represent Czech history as well as contemporary pieces. Visit Terezin and learn about the WWII concentration camp and how this plays into the history of Czech Republic. Explore the Prague, Karlstejn, Lednice/Valtice Castles Attend a performance at the Laterna Magika nonverbal theatre. Tour the Radost Puppet Theatre and watch a performance.

Students will take THD 476 or THD 309: Eastern European Theatre: Design Perspectives for 3 credit hours. Students will stay in fully furnished double occupancy apartments (3-4 students per apartment) which are conveniently located near open air markets and public transportation.
