Program Description

This program will explore the history and arts of Ghana through music, dance, historic site visits and excursions.



Location ________________

• Explore four different Ghanaian cities on this faculty directed program : Accra, Kumasi, Elmina, and Cape Coast
• Ghana is well-known throughout the world as the first independent Sub-Saharan nation and has a strong record of democracy, stability, and increasing socioeconomic standards.
• The program begins in Accra; Ghana’s capital city. This port city is set right along the Atlantic coast and is home to many beautiful beaches.
• Attend performances that emphasize the native culture, dance and music of Ghana
• Shop the famous Bazaars and see what local cultural treasures you can find.
• Visit the Cape Coast Castle, and learn about the history of slavery in Africa.
• Explore a local farm and learn about the history of agriculture
• Wrap up the program with a tour of Kakum National Park. Roam the hiking trails and see the canopy walls of the forest.

Prerequisites _______________

• Open to all majors and minors
• Open to undergraduate and graduate students
• Need an ISU undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.5 or 3.2 for graduate students
• Must have completed two full semesters at ISU or other college/university





Housing & Meals _______________

• Students will stay in shared hotels (2-4 students per room) which are coordinated by the program sponsor
• Some meals will be included. Breakfast will be provided each day by the hotel.
