Program Description

Location ________________

• Alcala de Henares is in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, 35 km northeast of the city of Madrid
• Spend four weeks in Spain at the Universidad de Alcala at the Instituto Franklin
• There are several cultural activities included in the cost of the program: guided visits to Madrid, the city of Toledo, the Royal Palace and other historical sites
• Several additional field trips will be available for an additional costs
• Alcala de Henares is known as the city of Miguel Cervantes, author of "Don Quijote de la Mancha"
• Alcala de Henares was the first city to be designed and built solely as the seat of a university, and was to serve as the model for other centers of learning in Europe and the Americas




Academics _______________

• A mixture of lecture seminars is combined with visits to local schools
• Students can earn 25 clinical hours
• Students will study a combination of Spanish language education and culture
• ISU faculty will be teaching on site for four weeks
• Students will take TCH 398: Professional Practice - School/Community Involvement (3 credit hours) and TCH 265: Curriculum & Pedagogy Issues in Education in a Global Society (3 credit hours)

Prerequisites _______________

• This program is designed for bilingual education majors, students will attend lectures, visit schools, and take educational field trips
• 2 full semesters at ISU or other college/university
• No Spanish language requirement

• Students will live with host families from Alcala de Henares, Spain
• Meals, laundry and internet are included



Student Life _______________

• Students can walk to attractions
• There are university activities that students can be involved in
• Alcala de Henares is famous for music, dancing and food
